Soldiers

There wasn’t one Roman soldier uniform that came complete in a box.

Start with a tunic, belt, and sturdy boots. Add armor and a helmet. Give him a shield, hang a sword and dagger from the belt, put a pilum in his hand. Now he looks like the Roman soldier everyone recognizes.

Look closer, though, and it gets more interesting. Roman soldiers didn’t all wear the same armor, carry the same equipment, or dress alike. Kit changed over time, different troops used different gear, and it all got repaired and replaced as it wore out.

Let’s get him geared up.
