What Is This All About?

Bethlehem Revisited brings the first Christmas to life, helping modern visitors imagine those momentous events. Some stations along the way come from before Christ’s birth; others look ahead to his death.

The Romans here are a reminder that Providence had a hand in it. Augustus didn’t “just happen” to call a census; it was preordained to bring Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. The whole might of the Roman Empire was enlisted so that one particular baby was born in one particular town on one particular night.

We hope this retelling, through the words of the Guides and actors, including our Roman soldiers, points to the real meaning of the season.

For unto us a child is born. Unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulders. And he shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
